Private sector workers disproportionately bear the financial burden of sustaining public sector pensions, which offer substantial advantages such as inflation protection—privileges unavailable to many in the private sector. With the full state pension capped at just £11,500 annually—well below the relative poverty threshold of £20,400—millions of retirees struggle to meet basic needs in a nation of immense wealth.

These principles should guide policymakers and stakeholders in creating solutions that ensure adequacy of state pensions and parity between public employee pensions and those of the private sector. Justice and Fairness
